There are reports that Facebook is going to pursue it’s own application based brand advertising systems. All I have to say is that at a time when Google is pushing forth its Open Social program, the WORST possible decision Facebook could make would be to drive away developers. We’re not going to take it — we’ll go to where we are appreciated. This is a platform war and we developers are essentially the soldiers. Whoever pays the highest price gets us and this news seems to indicate that Facebook will no longer be the highest bidder.

I would have to respectfully disagree. Whoever has the users has the power. You can certainly go to where you are appreciated but if you don’t have people using your applications you’ll go back to Facebook. I can’t see people in the near future choosing to develop applications for social networking sites and deciding not to develop for Facebook. The money lies where the users choose to be.

Is there any chance it’s for the consumer? Or is just perceived as a money making opportunity? If it’s the former, then Facebook is doing the right thing. It’s not ALL ABOUT THE application developer…it’s about the consumer ultimately.
